Is PDRN vegan? On salmon, roe and beeswax

Short answer: no. PDRN is drawn from salmon, and one of the products in the range also contains beeswax.

The longer answer is more useful, because the question often gets mixed up with another one.

Where PDRN comes from

PDRN stands for polydeoxyribonucleotide and is short strands of DNA. The material is taken from salmon. It is therefore an ingredient of animal origin, whichever product it sits in.

On the ingredient list it is called Sodium DNA. If you see that name in something marketed as vegan, it is worth asking the manufacturer what the source is.

Salmon roe is not the same as PDRN

This is where the confusion sits, and there is a reason for it.

PDRN Face Balm Stick contains salmon roe, which appears as Roe Extract on the ingredient list. It does not contain Sodium DNA. The balm connects to the range through the origin, not through the PDRN ingredient itself.

That is stated on the product page too. The difference should be visible, not hidden behind the name of the range.

Beeswax in the balm

The same product contains beeswax, listed as Beeswax in INCI. Beeswax comes from bees and does not count as vegan.

The other three products

The face mist, the face mask and the eye cream contain no beeswax. They do contain Sodium DNA, and two of them contain collagen, which is also of animal origin.

None of the four products is vegan.

How to check for yourself

The full ingredient list is published on every product page, in INCI format. Look for Sodium DNA, Roe Extract, Beeswax and Collagen. If you find any of them, the product is not vegan.
